Baggrund og historie
Morgan sølv dollars er en af de mest populære serier af amerikanske mønter blandt samlere. Mønten er opkaldt efter det er designer, George T. Morgan. De blev slået i hvert år fra 1878 til 1904 og genoplivet igen i 1921 i et enkelt år.
I starten blev mønten skabt til gavn for sølvgruveselskaberne, da kongressen bestod Bland-Allison Act, der effektivt dikterede antallet af mønter produceret hver måned.
Loven ophævede kunstigt sølvprisen for at tilfredsstille mineinteresser. Hundredvis af millioner af disse mønter gik aldrig i omløb og blev opbevaret i kludposer med hver 1.000 mønter. Treasury Department lagrede derefter poserne i regeringens vaults.
I 1918 blev i alt 270.232.722 mønter smeltet, men mange mønter forblev inden for regeringens vaults i årtier. Selvom mynten producerede Proof-mønter i nogle år, er ikke alle mønter, der har en cameo-kontrast , betragtes som bevismønter. Mønter, der har en Deep Mirror Proof-Like (DMPL) finish, blev lavet til cirkulation. Mange cirkulerede mønter er kun værd at deres guldværdi . Men nogle Morgan dollars er meget værdifulde ..

Morgan sølvdollerne blev prydet de amerikanske Mint-faciliteter i Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, Carson City. Ikke alle myntfaciliteter lavede mønter i hvert år af udstedelse.
